New year sale is the biggest sale of the year in Japan. Here is a list of major shopping malls and department stores in Tokyo that will hold the annual new year sale.
What is Fukubukuro?
Fukubukuro is a lucky bag. A sealed bag of goodies sold in new year’s sale, which you cannot open until you buy. It contains items worth much more, sometimes a few times more, than the price of the fukubukuro. Many people go to the first day of the sale to get one of the Fukubukuro from their favorite shops. Fukubukuro from popular shops and brands go sold out very quickly.
