2024 Tokyo New Year: JR East Japan’s 7 Lines Operate All Night!

For those getting ready to welcome 2024 in Japan, JR East Japan has recently announced that seven JReast lines, including the Yamanote Line and Keihin Tohoku/Negishi Line, will operate all night from December 31, 2023, to January 1, 2024. You can enjoy the New Year festivities all night without worrying about missing the last train!

Seven JR East Japan Trains Operating All Night on New Year’s Eve 2024

On New Year’s Eve 2024, the following seven lines are expected to operate during the night:

  • Yamanote Line
  • Keihin Tohoku/Negishi Line
  • Chuo/Sobu Line Local
  • Chuo Line Rapid
  • Yokosuka Line
  • Ome Line
  • Sobu Main Line/Narita Line

On New Year’s Eve (December 31), the Yamanote Line, Keihin Tohoku/Negishi Line, Chuo/Sobu Line (Local), and other lines will operate all night.

The Yamanote Line’s Inner/Outer Loop will run approximately every 15 minutes from around 1:00 AM to 5:00 AM. The Keihin Tohoku/Negishi Line, from Sakuragicho Station to Omiya Station, will operate approximately every 20-50 minutes from around 1:00 AM to 4:00 AM. The Yokosuka Line will also run all night with approximately 80-minute intervals from 1:00 AM to 5:00 AM.

The Chuo/Sobu Line (Local) will operate all night between Mitaka Station and Chiba Station, with intervals ranging from about 10 to 80 minutes from around 12:30 AM to 5:00 AM. The maximum interval between Tsudanuma and Chiba stations is 140 minutes.

The Chuo Line Rapid will operate all night between Mitaka Station and Takao Station, with intervals ranging from about 30 to 60 minutes from around 12:30 AM to 4:30 AM.

The Ome Line will have late-night special trains between Tachikawa and Mitake, departing from Tachikawa at 2:00 AM and 3:20 AM, and from Mitake at 3:00 AM and 4:38 AM. These trains will not stop between Miyanohira and Sawai stations.

The Sobu Main Line/Narita Line, operating between Chiba and Narita, will have late-night special trains departing from Chiba at 1:20 AM and 3:15 AM, and from Narita at 2:10 AM and 3:55 AM. All trains will not stop at Higashi-Chiba Station.
