We tried to watch the short videos on TikTok continuously for ten minutes. These short videos were of different lengths, and in order to simulate the real usage situation, we did not choose them according to their length.

As a result, we used a total of 88MB of traffic in these 10 minutes. Excluding possible errors and rounding up, we can probably conclude that Watching TikTok video continuously for 10 minutes will consume about 90MB of traffic.

However, if you keep refreshing Tiktok, you might be consuming more traffic than this table shows.

If you are a heavy user who watches TikTok every day, then you need to pay attention to your data usage. If you watch short videos without any restraint, be careful of the speed limit soon!

How to save data when using TikTok

TikTok does not have a feature like YouTube to reduce the quality of the video, and there is no way to limit the data usage in the TikTok app.

The only way to save data(and your money) is to change the settings and plans of your smartphone.

Whenever possible, try to use TikTok while connected to free Wi-Fi at train stations, restaurants, and other places where free Wi-Fi is available, which will allow you not to consume your own traffic.

However, be aware that free Wi-Fi may have security issues.

Switch to a count-free plan

In Japan, though this is only for Softbank users, there are plans that allow you to use TikTok count-free.

Count-free is a service that data used is not counted when using a particular app.

If you want to use TikTok a lot and you are a Softbank user, you should check if you can get a count-free plan.

Sign up for mobile WiFi

If you want to reduce your communication costs and still be able to use traffic to watch TikTok anytime, anywhere without worrying about running out of traffic, we recommend changing your cell phone package to the lowest cost package and renting a mobile WiFi to support Internet access exclusively.
