TikTok has some of the most creative videos on the web, and while they are shorter than YouTube’s videos, the fact that TikTok is so short means that you can’t stop watching them. If you’ve ever posted a video on TikTok, you’ll know how easy it is to post a video, and how quickly it gets watched and gains followers. I think this is one of the best things about TikTok that other social networking sites don’t have.
Once you start watching TikTok, you can’t stop.
How much data does it take to use TikTok for an hour?
How much DATA does TikTok per hour
We tried to watch the short videos on TikTok continuously for ten minutes. These short videos were of different lengths, and in order to simulate the real usage situation, we did not choose them according to their length.
As a result, we used a total of 88MB of traffic in these 10 minutes. Excluding possible errors and rounding up, we can probably conclude that Watching TikTok video continuously for 10 minutes will consume about 90MB of traffic.
Then we use this figure to calculate, we can get a table like this:
|Usage time||Data usage|
It uses more space than you might think.
However, if you keep refreshing Tiktok, you might be consuming more traffic than this table shows.
If you are a heavy user who watches TikTok every day, then you need to pay attention to your data usage. If you watch short videos without any restraint, be careful of the speed limit soon!
How to save data when using TikTok
TikTok does not have a feature like YouTube to reduce the quality of the video, and there is no way to limit the data usage in the TikTok app.
The only way to save data(and your money) is to change the settings and plans of your smartphone.
How to save data communication on your smartphone
Save money by connecting to free WiFi when you are out
Whenever possible, try to use TikTok while connected to free Wi-Fi at train stations, restaurants, and other places where free Wi-Fi is available, which will allow you not to consume your own traffic.
However, be aware that free Wi-Fi may have security issues.
Switch to a count-free plan
In Japan, though this is only for Softbank users, there are plans that allow you to use TikTok count-free.
Count-free is a service that data used is not counted when using a particular app.
If you want to use TikTok a lot and you are a Softbank user, you should check if you can get a count-free plan.
Sign up for mobile WiFi
If you want to reduce your communication costs and still be able to use traffic to watch TikTok anytime, anywhere without worrying about running out of traffic, we recommend changing your cell phone package to the lowest cost package and renting a mobile WiFi to support Internet access exclusively.
If you are in Japan, the large traffic packages offered by the three major mobile telecom companies (SOFTBANK/DOCOMO/AU) can cost 7,000 yen or even 8,000 yen per month, but with our approach above, you can spend less than 6,000 yen per month and still have a lot of traffic to use for Internet communication.
Even the most basic package of mobile WiFi has a lot of high-speed data, so you can watch TikTok and even YouTube videos without worrying about the traffic situation.
If you are in Japan and want to rent a mobile WiFi (or if you are looking for a suitable mobile WiFi for your future trip to Japan), we recommend CDJapan Rental’s mobile WiFi.
Other mobile WiFi in Japan, such as WiMAX or Pocket WiFi, are basically 3-year contracts, which require a signing fee at the time of signing, and a cancellation fee if the 3-year contract is not completed, which is very inconvenient.
CDJapan Rental provides a kind of rental WiFi that is available for renting from a few days to a few months for any period of time you choose, and there is no contract fee.
Currently, most of the plans other shops provide are containing 150GB per month, but CDJapan Rental offers plans of up to 200GB per month (150GB plans are also available) at a very reasonable price, so be sure to check it out.
