Shigeru Mizuki’s Yokai Theme Park in Sunshine City (Jul.26-Aug.29)

GeGeGe Mizuki Shigeru no Dai-yokai, a theme park of Shigeru Mizuki’s Yokai (Japanese folklore creatures) will be open for a limited period of time in Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. It will be held from July 26 to August 29. A manga author, Mizuki is known for the manga “GeGeGe no Kitaro” series depicting various Yokai.

The theme park will offer visitors an opportunity to learn about all kinds of Yokai characters Mizuki portrayed, and to experience feeling the existence of Yokai through attractions. However, all the written descriptions will be only in Japanese.

Inside the venue, there will be the statues of Yokai that are usually set on the “Mizuki Shigeru Road” in Tottori Prefecture, and a big Yokai map of Japan showing what kind of Yokai originate in each prefecture. In Yokai yashiki (the yokai house) and Yokai no mori (the forest of Yokai) area, you will be able to actually experience meeting and feeling yokai in two different settings: an old Japanese style house and deep in the mountains of Japan!

This event was held in Taiwan in 2012, and in Osaka in 2013, and drew about 5.8 hundred thousand visitors in total.
