On the evening of May 26, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida officially announced that foreign tourists will be admitted to Japan on June 10, 2022. This is two years and two months after the announcement of the closure of Japan following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) outbreak in 2020, the country has reopened to foreign tourists.
As a first step, tourists from all over the world will be allowed to enter Japan as “guided tours”, and will be expanded in stages depending on the status of the outbreak.
In addition, from June 1, visitors from 98 countries or regions with low infection rates will no longer be tested for entry into Japan and will no longer be required to be isolated at home after entering the country.
For specific measures, please refer to the following documents from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The following table shows the status of inspection upon entry and isolation after entry.
|Country / Region||Whether to hold a valid vaccination certificate||PCR test within 72 hours before departure||Inspection when entering Japan||Isolation time after entering Japan|
|紅||NO||YES||YES||「3 days of home isolation, etc. (+ PCR test by the designated institution and negative)」|
|YES||「3 days from the house isolation, etc. + independent PCR test and negative」
（If PCR is not performed, 7-day isolation is required）
|YES||NO||「No need for isolation」|
