11th Annual Okinawa International Movie Festival 2019

Historical sites, local cuisine you can’t find in mainland Japan, Ryukyu traditional culture, beautiful beaches….And now!
Once April arrives, the 11th annual Okinawa International Movie Festival will hit the streets of Naha, Okinawa. From April 18th-21st, the island’s main city, including the outdoor Namino Ue Minosora Park and Kokusai Dori, the main drag downtown, will host a non-stop 4 days of free and paid events, including (of course) film screenings, fashion shows, and workshops for creatives.
The festival will have commemorative opening and closing ceremonies, and just as in past years, on the very last day of the festival Kokusai Dori will be transformed into a sprawling red carpet walked by celebrities, directors…and maybe you?!

Of particular interest, with Okinawa’s precious corals and  fragile marine ecosystems being the subject of environmental activists calls for protection, director Yoshimoto Kogyo has collaborated with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will release two think piece films that delve into questions of human responsibility in regards to sustainability.
The site is still in the process of being updated, so the film lineup is not yet complete, however, for details, ticket purchases, and the chance to volunteer, head on over to the Okinawa International Movie Festival Official Site.
