SoftBank Mobile Corp. will be offering free and secure wi-fi service “FREE Wi-Fi PASSPPORT” for foreign visitors to Japan starting July 1. The major difference from other free wi-fi services is that they don’t require any app to be downloaded on a device. Instead, the user will dial a dedicated number from their mobile phones for verification.
After registering, the password will be valid for two weeks, and can be used on up to 5 devices.
According to their press release, the users will have access to approximate 400,000 wi-fi access points nationwide within July.
The service will be available in English, Chinese, and Korean.
