A new Shinkansen route is scheduled to be launched on March 26, 2016! Construction of the new section has been underway to connect Hokkaido island and northern Honshu island. The new section will connect Tokyo and Hokkaido by a single Shinkansen route! Eventually, the route will be extended further into Hokkaido.
The new Shinkansen service will shorten the travel times between Shin-Hakodate Hokuto in Hokkaido and Shin-Aomori in northern Honshu, and Shin-Hakodate Hokuto and Tokyo.

New Shinkansen: 1 hour
