A List of 24hr Post Offices in Japan

During your time time in Japan, there are so many reasons the post office can come in handy, but if you’re on a tight schedule, sometimes it’s hard to make it in during their limited business hours.

Update in November,2022

There is no 24/7 post office in Japan now.

The majority of post offices in the list below have extended their weekday hours of operation until 9:00 PM and close at 6:00 PM on weekends.
However, you have the option to utilize these post offices as delivery addresses for receiving your packages.

Most of the small post offices in Japan close early (around 6pm) on weekdays and do not open on weekends and holidays. However, select post offices are open 24/7. These are most often the big post offices near major train stations, and they have a counter called “Yu-Yu Window(ゆうゆう窓口 yu yu madoguchi)”. You can buy stamps, send packages, and collect packages you sent to the post office (*Explained below) at the Yu-Yu Window anytime.

It’s useful to know that Japan Post allows you to receive parcels at any post office in Japan. The service is known as “kyoku dome”(局留め, literally means, ‘stopped at the post office’). For example, when you buy something online but don’t know where you will be staying, you can have the package sent to a post office in the area you will be around and can pick it up once it is delivered to the post office. The package will be returned to the sender if it is not collected within 10 days. Remember that you need to show your official ID to collect your package, so the recipient’s name must be exactly the same as on your ID, and not a nickname.

Here is a list of the main post offices in Japan where a “Yu-Yu Window(ゆうゆう窓口)” is available 24 hours. You can click the post office’s name for more Information (Japanese Only). Time it takes to walk from the nearest station can also be found below.
